Privacy Policy

Effective Date: September 8, 2026 · Publisher: Code Cowboys LLC

Overview

Pocket Curio is a personal journal of souvenirs and the places they came from, developed and published by Code Cowboys LLC, a Michigan-based software studio. Our privacy policy is short because the app is built so that we cannot see your data.

Everything you record in Pocket Curio — photos, places, dates, who gave you what, the memories — is stored only on your device. Pocket Curio has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and makes no network calls. We do not collect, transmit, store, sell, or share any personal data. We could not hand your collection to anyone even if asked, because we never have it.

Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect:

Camera and Photos

Camera and photo-library access is used only when you photograph a souvenir or a shelf of them. The photos you take are stored locally, in the app's own private storage, with the rest of your collection and are never uploaded — there is nowhere to upload them to.

Reading the Print on a Souvenir

When you photograph a souvenir, Pocket Curio reads the text printed on it on your device (Google ML Kit's bundled, offline text recognition) and offers it as the place name for you to check. The photo and everything read from it stay on your phone. Text recognition works with no network connection at all.

Location

Pocket Curio requests no location permission. The map is drawn from the state and country you type; a souvenir's coordinates exist only if you enter them yourself, and are stored locally like everything else.

How Your Data Is Stored

All data you enter into Pocket Curio is stored locally on your device. This data:

If you use your device's built-in backup features (such as Google Backup or iCloud), your app data may be included in those backups according to your device settings and the policies of those services. We have no control over or access to those backups.

Sharing, Export, and Backup

The CSV export and the backup file are created only when you tap the button, and go only where you send them via your phone's share sheet — your own cloud drive, an email to yourself, a message to a family member. Restoring a backup reads a file you choose. We are never in that path.

Third-Party Services

Pocket Curio does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or data collection services. We do not use:

The on-device text recognition library ships inside the app and does not contact any server.

Purchases

Pocket Curio Pro is sold through Google Play and the Apple App Store. The stores process payment and tell the app only "this purchase is owned." We receive no payment details and keep no purchase records of our own.

Children's Privacy

Pocket Curio does not knowingly collect data from anyone — including children under the age of 13 — because it collects no data at all.

Data Deletion

Because we do not collect or store any of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our end. Deleting the app deletes all of its data:

Make a backup first if you want to keep your collection; we have no copy to restore for you (that is the point).

Changes to This Policy

If a future version ever changes what leaves your device, this policy and its effective date will change with it, and the app will say so before anything new happens. Any such feature would be opt-in and clearly labeled — it will never change silently.
